The invention relates to a method for the construction of a storage reservoir in the mouth of a river in an area reclaimed from the sea, intended to capture, store and subsequently harness the flow of water discharged daily by the river into the sea. According to the invention, in order to construct the storage reservoir, a maritime area is completely isolated using one or more continuous and impermeable containment dykes (2), said maritime area comprising the mouth of the river (4) forming an enclosure (3) that traps the water being discharged from the river.
