The invention relates to a lane-tracking assistant and to a method for controlling a lane-tracking assistant in a vehicle (10), wherein the method comprises the following steps: a) determining an actual position (14) and a target driving path (16) of the vehicle (10); b) determining a transverse deviation (Δr) of the vehicle (10) considering the actual position (14) and the target driving path (16); c) activating the lane-tracking assistant as soon as the transverse deviation (Δr) exceeds a predefined threshold value (Δrs); and d) deactivating the lane-tracking assistant before the actual position (14) of the vehicle (10) reaches the target driving path (16).
