A method for optimizing the control of the number of the European corn borer Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn. (Lepidoptera, Pyralidae) includes settling the egg parasite Trichogramma onto plants. Under the conditions of the initial number of the European corn borer that does not exceed two threshold levels against the first generation fourfold settling of Trichogramma of the species Trichogramma pintoi Voeg. is carried out. The first settling is carried out at the beginning of mass egg laying of females of the European corn borer. The subsequent settlings are carried out with an interval of three days. A settling rate of Trichogramma is 50; 80; 80 and 50 thousand of females per 1 ha correspondingly. The Trichogramma is settled at night starting from the 23 hour.
