PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the amount of a lubricant scattered and improve the sliding reliability of a magnetic disk apparatus.;SOLUTION: A magnetic disk is provided which has a lubricating film formed thereon from a perfluoropolyether lubricant which has been controlled with an ultrafiltration film so that it has a number average mol.wt. of 5,500 or higher, a content of molecules having mol.wts. of 3,000 or lower of 15 wt.% or lower of the total amount, a ratio of wt. average to number average mol.wt. of 1.5 or lower, and a degree of substitution of terminal functional groups of 90% or higher. The magnetic disk apparatus has the magnetic disk and is rotatable at 10,000 rpm or higher. The control of mol.wt. and mol.wt. distribution are made possible by an ultrafiltration film which has been subjected to a treatment so that it can fractionate a hydrophobic substance.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
