PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trichogenous agent and a hair tonic such as a cosmetic having high safety, excellent in usability and having remarkable hair-growing effect. SOLUTION: This cosmetic is obtained by including an extract of leaf and stem of plants of the genus Callicarpa of the family Verbenaceac, particularly Callicarpa arborea Roxb., used as a trichogenous agent into a cosmetic. The resultant cosmetic has excellent trichogenous ability and high safety and is excellent in usability and has remarkable trichogenous effect and is useful for prevention and improvement of baldness, sparse hair and epilation.
