PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catalyst composition and a method for oligomerizing an olefin, particularly ethylene, using the catalyst composition. ;SOLUTION: The catalyst composition contains at least one nickel complex containing at least one bidentate chelate ligand formed by bonding a nitrogen- containing heterocycle with an alcohol and contains at least one hydrocarbyl aluminum compound selected from the group consisting of a tris(hydrocarbyl) aluminum compound and a chlorinated or brominated hydrocarbyl aluminum compound, or at least one aluminoxane.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
