PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of damages during a process of drawing a discharge lamp, of which a main material is niobium or molybdenum, into a shape of a cup.;SOLUTION: The main metallic material of the cup type discharge electrode for a cold cathode discharge lamp is either niobium or molybdenum. Before a process of drawing a flat sheet 4 into a shape of a cup, a nickel plating layer 5 is formed on the surface of the sheet 4 which is to contact the upper die of a die set 6. This formation of a the nickel plating layer 5 will prevent the occurrence of damages to be made by scratching by an edge of the die and the occurrence of metallic particles from the damages, and as a result a product value of the cup type discharge electrode 2 of niobium or molybdenum will be enhanced and a service life of the die set will be extended.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
