The invention relates to a method and a device for determining the value of a delay to be applied between the sending of a first set of data and the sending of a second set of data, the data being representative of a coded image sequence, the data sets consisting of subsets of data, the coded images being encoded at a first resolution level and at least a second resolution level higher than the first resolution level, the subsets of data comprising data of a resolution level. According to the invention: - obtains (E506) first and second sets of data, - determines (E507) the value of the delay, the value of the delay being dependent on the number of decoded images that can be formed from the subsets data set of the first set of data which includes data of the second or second level of resolution.
