Curing and electrically connecting a vertical electrode, comprises partly supplying heat on a transition area of a vertical electrode, and electrically connecting on an area of the electrode in which the electrode material is in solid form
The process comprises partly supplying heat on a transition area of a vertical electrode (2) in which an electrode material passes from the state of embers to the solid state, and electrically connecting on an area of the electrode in which the electrode material is in solid form. The vertical electrode comprises a shell containing an electrode material. The electrode material constitutes a block that is in solid form in the lower part of the shell and is formed by curing a granular ember block introduced in the upper part of the shell. The process comprises partly supplying heat on a transition area of a vertical electrode (2) in which an electrode material passes from the state of embers to the solid state, and electrically connecting on an area of the electrode in which the electrode material is in solid form. The vertical electrode comprises a shell containing an electrode material. The electrode material constitutes a block that is in solid form in the lower part of the shell and is formed by curing a granular ember block introduced in the upper part of the shell. The step of supplying heat is carried out through means for contacting with the periphery of the electrode. The contacting means is fitted with heating means. The electrical connection step is achieved by the contacting means fitted with cooling means. The step of heat supply is carried out partly on the transition area and partly on the electrode area in which the electrode material is in solid state, adjacent to the transition area. The lower part of the shell is formed by firing from a pitch block granular entering the upper part of the body. The electrical connection (4) of the electrode to a power source is carried out by a plate ring of electrical connection plates equipped with cooling means. The rings are placed around and contacted with the electrode periphery and the ring of electrical connection plate is placed above the ring of curing plate. In the process: the conditions of thermal coupling of curing plates with electrode vary longitudinally with the electrode; and the conditions of electrical coupling of electrical connection plates with electrode vary longitudinally to the electrode. The step of electrical connection is carried out away from the transition area from ember state to the solid state of electrode material. Independent claims are included for: (1) a device intended to be associated with a vertical electrode such as a metallurgical furnace; and (2) a metallurgical furnace. .
