A fume extraction device comprises a fan (3) for extracting fume-laden air from a room (5) and for conveying the extracted air to an area (9) located outside of the room (5). The fume extraction device comprises a pressure difference detection device (10) for detecting the pressure difference (Pd) between the inside pressure (Pi) in the room (5) and the outside pressure (Pa) in the area (9) located outside the room (5). The fume extraction device also comprises a control device (11) for controlling the air conveying capacity of the fan (3) according to the pressure difference (Pd).
