The method involves modulating ultrasound (2) during propagation through a propagation medium (4) i.e. air, by a sound source (5), and receiving the ultrasound by a microphone (3). Externally generated sound is obtained from a modulated ultrasound signal. Transmitted ultrasound is continuously changed in frequency, and signal processing of a detected signal of a spatial position along an ultrasound signal is assigned. Modulated ultrasound is redirected by one or more reflecting elements and directed towards the microphone. An independent claim is also included for a device for radiation and detection of ultrasound in a non-audible area.
