The article stamp (1) has a housing (2), an interchangeable alphabetic character inserted in the housing, and a latch (29) by which the alphabetic character is locked in the housing in a form-fit manner. The latch held in its position, in which it locks alphabetic character is moved into a position and releases the alphabetic character by a spring. The alphabetic character is fed in an assembly unit in the housing. The latch is moved from locked position into release position in vertical or inclined manner to the assembly direction.
