The method involves setting an internal combustion engine (1) in a knocking state using a vibration generation sensor (6) i.e. knocking sensor (7), attached to the internal combustion engine. The knocking state is detected by the vibration generation sensor, where the vibration generation sensor is supported at a transportable pallet (3) fastened to the internal combustion engine and is controlled with alternating current. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing normal function of a knocking sensor attached to an internal combustion engine.
