The method involves positioning an object and a detection unit together, and optically detecting a marking or a part of the marking of an enlarged print image (6-1). Digital image data are produced, where the data comprise a marking or a part of marking in a machine processed form. A characteristic feature within the image data is localized, and is extracted. The characteristic feature is compared with a characteristic feature of the object, which is detected at a specific time point and is stored in a data base, and correlation probability of the characteristic features is determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for identifying and/or authenticating an object based on a production-related and/or processing-related feature.
