The system has a device (10) e.g. mobile phone, smart phone or personal digital assistant, that is carried by mobile clients to identify a customer. A set of devices (20.1- 20.n) is permanently installed in a shop area, and a set of consumer goods (22.1- 22.n) is assigned to the set of devices (20.1-20.n). An interface unit (12) is provided to connect the devices with each other. A CPU (30) with server functions is connected to the devices, such that the CPU receives data from the devices, combines the data and resends the processed data to one of the devices. An independent claim is also included for a technical method for assisting a customer for selecting, obtaining and using durable consumer goods.
