The component has a monofilament superconducting solenoid comprising a monofilament superconducting coil (1) and a superconducting pipe (2). The monofilament superconducting coil is positioned in the superconducting pipe. The superconducting pipe has superconducting characteristics in normal operation of the monofilament superconducting coil. Cross-section areas of the monofilament superconducting coil and the superconducting pipe are elliptical shaped, square shaped or polygonal shaped. The superconducting pipe extends over entire length of the superconducting coil. An independent claim is also included for a method for reducing alternating current losses in a monofilament superconducting coil.
