The device has a spring insert (3) arranged coaxial to a cylindrical coil spring (2) within a cylindrical cavity (5) of the spring described by spring coils (4). Vibration damping of the spring is made by a friction contact between an inner contour of the coil describing the cavity of the spring and an outer contour of the insert due to relative movement between the coil of the spring and the insert by axial and/or radial movement of the coil during operation of the spring. The outer contact of the insert is formed by three bar elements.
