The device has a video camera (2) directed to a scene in a surrounding of a motor vehicle (1), where a focusing of the video camera is adjusted in such a manner that objects e.g. guide posts, in a close region (N) of the scene are recorded in a blurred manner. The video camera is focused to a distance that is larger than a hyper focal distance of the video camera. An evaluation unit implements an image analysis of the images of the video camera under the consideration of image stream. The video camera is mounted on the motor vehicle in a driving direction.
