The head has a detector e.g. infrared detector (14), detecting incident radiation (10) of an airborne target e.g. jet aircraft. Additional detectors (24) e.g. infrared-transparent detector element, detect the incident radiation having wavelength of 450 to 600 nanometer and/or 760 nanometer. An optics (12) is provided for illustrating the radiation of target on the infrared detector. The additional detector is arranged in an optical path of the infrared detector. A beam splitter (18) is arranged in the path and aligns the radiation of target on the additional detector. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognizing an airborne target.
