The method involves providing a calibration object with a calibration mark for calibrating a camera system, and recording an image of the object without a windscreen and with a windscreen. The position of the mark and a spatial resolution are determined by utilizing a modulation transfer function. The value for the position and the spatial resolution are compared before and after the installation of the windscreen, where defects in the windscreen are detected based on the comparison result.
