Enzymatic esterification process for the manufacture of saturated medium chain, optionally branched benzoic acid-alkyl ester (alkyl benzoate) and phenyl acetic acid-alkyl ester (alkyl phenyl acetate) and its hydroxy-, methoxy- or hydroxy methoxy- substituted derivative, comprises reacting the benzoic acid and phenyl acetic acid derivatives with saturated medium chain alcohol at 20-100[deg] C under stirring in the presence of lipases, and removing the existing water in a vacuum from the reaction mixture.
