The method involves determining dynamic performance characteristics based on active variation of voltage or current provided by an electrical load e.g. drive motor. An operating point (AP) of a fuel cell arrangement is determined and adjusted based on the characteristics. The voltage is periodically varied, and amplitude of a changing portion of the voltage is varied. An electrical power is provided for the load from the arrangement, and is characterized by an output current and an output voltage representing the provided power and the associated operating point.
