Fuel ethanol content determining method for internal combustion engine in motor vehicle, involves determining ethanol content of fuel independent of fuel temperature and pressure determined during initiation of vapor lock
The method involves determining the temperature and pressure of a fuel (52) during the initiation of a vapor lock. Ethanol content of the fuel is determined independent of the determined temperature and pressure. The fuel is pumped from a fuel tank (50) of an internal combustion engine to a high pressure pump (58) with a low pressure pump (56) over a low pressure cycle. The pump (58) supplies a fuel rail (60) with fuel under high pressure. Delivery rates of the pumps (56, 58) are decreased and increased, respectively by the constant fuel pressure in the rail until the lock is established. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the ethanol content of a fuel of an internal combustion engine.
