A Laurentirol compound derived from Laurencia okamurai is provided to prepare a melanoma inhibitor in order to prevent and treat melanoma by inducing apoptosis in a melanoma cell without side effects. A melanoma inhibitor comprises 0.1-1000mug/mL of a Laurentirol compound derived from Laurencia okamurai, which is represented by the formula 1. The Laurencia okamurai is obtained in a coastal area of Cheju island. The Laurentirol compound is extracted from the Laurencia okamurai and purified. The melanoma inhibitor induces apoptosis in melanoma cells. The melanoma cell(B16F1) can be self-destructed through the apoptosis generated by an apoptotic regulator such as p53, PUMA, Bax, AKT1 and Fas/FasL.
