A scanning apparatus for recognizing clearly the document scanning result and the reference light amount decision method are provided, which determines reference light amount of which the reliability are high. A scanning module shows reference colors set up in advance not to be overlapped and scans the patch showing each reference colors in a plurality of domain frames which are separated with each other. The reference radiation intensity determining unit determines in consideration of scanning result of reference light amount meaning each reference colors.
