A novel Methylobacterium fujisawaense CBMB 20 strain is provided to promote growth of plants by fixing aerial nitrogen, secreting plant growth-promoting hormones and inhibiting production of plant aging hormones, so that the strain is useful as a microbial fertilizer. A novel Methylobacterium fujisawaense CBMB 20 strain(KACC-91209P) comprising the nucleotide sequences of SEQ ID NO:1 promotes growth of plants including rice, tomato, canola and red pepper and is isolated from the soil. A microbial preparation contains Methylobacterium fujisawaense CBMB 20 strain(KACC-91209P) as an effective ingredient. The plant growth is promoted by dipping plants or plant seeds in the microbial preparation or supplying the microbial preparation to plants or plant seeds.
