The present invention discloses a system for railway transportation of semitrailers (10) on railway freight wagons, said system comprising: at least one railway freight wagon comprising at least one supportive element (1),at least two transverse wheel platform members (3) for supporting the wheels of a semi-trailer, and at least two low-built multi-wheeled bogies. At least one of the plate-shaped wheel platform members (3) is arranged with an end portion having a geometrical shape such that, when in use, it cooperates with a corresponding plate-shaped wheel platform member of a second wagon to allow a close connection of the wagons. The system further comprises at least one inclined ramp (11) adapted to be placed proximate to or in abutment against one front or rear end of said at least one railway freight wagon during a loading or unloading procedure, wherein a semi-trailer (10) can be driven onto a railway freight wagon via said at least one inclined ramp (11). The present invention also discloses a railway freight wagon and a method for manufacturing such a railway freight wagon.
