An in vitro method for determining the sensitivity of an individual with dementia to Rivastigmine treatment comprising: a) determining, for each of the two copies of the ApoE gene present in the individual, the nature of the ApoE genotype, where b) if one or both of the two copies of the ApoE gene present in the individual contains the gamma4 allele, then the patient should be placed in a group of patients with a good response; or c) if neither of the two copies of the ApoE gene of the patients contains the gamma4 allele, then the patient is placed in a group of poor response patients.
