The arrangement e.g. binocular observation device (1), has two visual beam paths (11, 12) and a laser range finder (2) that includes a laser transmitter (14) and a laser receiver (21). Parts of beam paths (16, 20) of the transmitter and the receiver are localized in the visual beam paths, respectively. Direction change areas are localized at an optical component. A focusing device (7) focuses the beam path (16) of the transmitter and the visual beam paths between the component and an objective (5). A display element (25) is formed from electrical components such as LED- or LCD displays. An independent claim is also included for a method for observing and measuring a distance of a distant object with a long-range optical arrangement.
