The method involves monitoring energy usage over several days in a display device (3) of a user, and changing icons displayed in the display device to indicate increase or decrease in energy consumption. The energy consumption is compared with that of same type of house or family composition by Internet communication, and a text message about the result of the comparison is transmitted to the display device to advise the user to save energy.
