摘要

The present patent describes a suitable path for the synthesis of SiO2 monoliths doped with transition metals obtained by the sol-gel process. A high contrast may be induced in the monoliths in the transmission to the visible radiation. Said contrast between processed zones and normal zones having a radius of from about 40 microns is induced by means of focusing the laser radiation at a low incidence power, at a range of from about 1 mW to about 48 mW. The contrast in the generated transmission involves an optical memory effect that may be used as a means for storing information, wherein the storing density thereof may be increased with a conventional microscopic optic of the type of the SiO2 monoliths herein described.
