Strain Scenedesmus quadricauda SEIVA + VI, which is able to grow in the presence of high concentrations of both selenite and selenate (Na2SeO3, Na.sub.2.n.SeO.sub.4 .n.), optionally in a mixture of both the compounds which are lethal for cells of collection (check) strains. This strain grows even with high concentration of selenium and is able to absorb significantly higher amount of organically bound selenium if compared with the control strain. Addition to autotrophic growth in photo bioreactors, it can also grow heterotrophic in fermenters.
