PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method enabling use of a value-added hardware on an interface board of a computer system.;SOLUTION: It is determined whether the interface board is connected to a bus of the computer system or not, and a general host device driver for controlling standard function related to the interface board is loaded in a kernel memory space of the computer system. Then, a value-added device driver is loaded on a memory of the computer system. Prescribed information such as a password, secret information, encryption information or the like is memorized in a prescribed address in the memory space on the interface board. A prescribed response based on the prescribed information is received from the interface board. If the prescribed response agrees with an expected response, access to the value-added hardware through the value-added device driver is enabled.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
