PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide superhigh strength stainless steel having the tensile strength of ≥2200 N/mm2. ;SOLUTION: This superhigh strength metastable austenitic stainless steel has a chemical composition containing, by mass, 0.10 to 0. 20% C, 1.0 to 5.0% Si, ≤3.0% Mn, 4.0 to 10.0% Ni, 12.0 to 18.0% Cr, ≤3.5%, preferably, 1.0 to 3.0% Cu, ≤5.0%, preferably, 1.0 to 4.5% Mo, ≤0.15% N, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, satisfying C+N≥0.15% and Si+Mo≥3.5%, in which the value of Md(N) defined by the following formula Md(N)=580-520 C-2Si-16Mn-16Cr-23Ni--300N-26Cu-10Mo is also 50 to 140 and has a worked double-phase structure of a martensitic phase of 80 to 95 vol.%, and the balance substantially austenitic phase, and in which aging precipitates by aging treatment in the temperature range of 300 to 600°C for 0.5 to 120 min are distributed into the above structure.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
