PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for easily identifying a location of occurrence of an echo, which hinders conversation in a mobile telephone network, an IP telephone network or the like. PSOLUTION: The method for identifying an echo occurrence location in a transmission device connected to a transmission path, includes a transmission delay measuring unit which transmits a known signal to the transmission path and receives the known signal returning from the transmission device, to measure a transmission delay time between itself and the transmission device, an echo delay measuring unit which measures a delay time of an echo based on data in one direction on the transmission path and data in the other direction on the transmission path, and an identification unit which identifies a transmission device in which an echo occurs, based on the transmission delay time and the echo delay time.
