PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underground passageway which is equipped with an ETC system, does not cross a driving lane, and allows a toll collector to safely come in and out of a toll island without changing a location of setting an existing toll booth and a toll collecting machine and a place of work of the toll collector.;SOLUTION: The toll island includes the underground passageway 3 for a toll collector to walk through that is constructed underground below a driving lane at an expressway tollgate, and a toll booth. The underground passageway 3 is formed of a passageway box 5, on which the toll island is located. An opening 8 is formed to lead to the toll island just above the passageway box 5, and is provided with a narrow stairs 10 having a stairs tread 12a on which a toll collector walks to climb up and down the stairs 10 shifted 90 degrees in direction relative to the underground passageway 3, from and into the passageway box 5. Through the underground passageway 3, the toll collector is able to come in and out of all toll islands including a toll island equipped with an ETC.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
