PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road extraction method with which initialization is easily set and calculation cost can be reduced. PSOLUTION: The road extraction method includes: a step 101 of determining whether there is the boundary of road ahead of the present direction by a predetermined distance in the present window; a step 102 of moving forward by the predetermined distance and return to the step 101 when the front of the window does not intersect the boundary of road; a step 103 of changing the direction to left by a predetermined angle and return to the step 101 when the right half of the front of the window intersects the boundary of road; and a step 104 of changing the direction to right by the predetermined angle and return to the step 101 when the left half of the front of the window intersects the boundary of road.
