The method involves estimating the effort undergone by a steering rack of a steering system from pinion effort exerted by a drive pinion on the steering rack and the speed of the steering rack using a logic controller, where the steering rack is connected to steering wheels of a motor vehicle by its ends. The speed of the steering rack is obtained from rotational speed of an electrical engine of a steering unit, where the rotational speed is measured by a brushless type sensor. The pinion effort is estimated from pinion torque on the steering rack and life situation of the electrical engine.
