The method involves determining a value of thermal setting power (Wc) to obtain a setting temperature in a post-processing unit i.e. oxidation catalyst, from the estimation of rate (Qech) and temperature of exhaust gas before entering in the unit and based on the composition. Input power (We) supplied by the gas is determined based on losses (Wp), where the power (We) corresponds to a sum of heating power due to the temperature and potential power of exothermic reaction. The composition is adjusted to compensate difference between the power (We) and power (Wc) by modifying the potential power.
