Synthesis of cyclic acetals by reaction of aldehyde and/or ketone with a polyol, in a simulated mobile bed reactor having garnished columns of acidic solid bed able to selectively adsorb the reaction products, comprises introduction of reactant and eluant in the bed and simultaneous catalytic reaction to form cyclic acetal and water, separation of the two products by selective adsorption on the reactor and extraction of the cyclic acetal and a mixture of water with eluant in two different spots of the reactor using the eluant.
