Lens-polishing method for producing optically active surfaces by polishing rough-ground lenses uses large-surface polishing tools and 5-axle computerized numerically controlled polishing machines with work-piece/tool spindles
A cap tool (26) is used under pressure with its flexible polishing membrane kept before an actual polishing process in contact with the surface of a lens (10) to be polished with its roughly pre-shaped polishing surface and a polishing foil. A polishing surface is molded as a negative shape with a polishing foil after applying pressure on the lens. During polishing movements, the negative shape is renewed again and again at each new position in the polishing surface. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the method of the present invention.
