A three-dimensional view of body parts (4,12a) is displayed on a screen. A digital image of an object like leg bones is displayed on the screen. Characteristic dimensions of the object are determined. An area of a body part is selected, on which an object like an implant or artificial limb is to be fitted. The object is automatically gaged roughly on the body part by using the characteristic dimensions.
