A heat treatment assembly for multi-filament polymer threads has one or more rotating drums that hold kinetic energy. When operation of the assembly is interrupted the kinetic energy is converted into electrical energy by the operation induction brakes. The electrical energy is used to drive other drums and/or a heat source. In a further embodiment the drum drive and inductive heating system receive electrical energy via a rectifier forming part of a common electrical circuit. Residual energy not required to drive other drums or act as a source of heat energy is removed by an electrical resistance assembly.
