The method involves impregnating a polymer membrane (24) with liquid or solved electrolytes (26). The polymer membrane is supported between two carrier foils that are moistened and/or immersed with the electrolytes and that lie at both sides of the polymer membrane, during the impregnation of the polymer membrane and/or the electrolytes. The carrier foils are permeable for the electrolytes and made up of a polymer material. A process pressure different from an ambient pressure is pressurized during the impregnation, where the process pressure is higher or lower than the ambient pressure.
