Optical position sensor for e.g. monitoring piston movements in pneumatic system, has evaluation electronic system present within sensor housing and providing signal based on distance of sensor from surface image sensor
The sensor has a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) surface image sensor (400) arranged such that distance of the sensor from the image sensor changes corresponding to a position to be measured. An optical imaging system forms the sensor on a CMOS image sensor surface (700) such that a surface portion of a projection of the sensor at a whole image sensor surface is proportional to the distance of the sensor from the image sensor (400). An evaluation electronic system present within a sensor housing (300) provides a signal based on the surface (700) and on the distance.
