The system has a set of fluid chambers (a-c) lying consequently on an optical axis between a pair of covers (3). The chambers are seperated from each other by two flexible membranes (1). A fluid channel (4) is discharged into the chambers, where the pressure of the fluid is influenceable, and is transparent. A control unit (5) controls the respective pressure or volume of the fluid that fills the fluid chambers. The control unit controls the pressure based on predetermined focal length of the system, such that chromatic and/or monochromatic aberrations are minimized. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fluid membrane lens system with a set of fluid chambers.
