The method involves determining distance information from an environment of a vehicle (1) e.g. commercial motor vehicle, by an image sensor (3). The distance between the vehicle and a target object (2) e.g. swap trailer, is determined based on the distance information. The vehicle height is determined, and difference to the vehicle height for docking in the target object is consulted for the vehicle treble control. Space data and the height data are determined with the sensor. The vehicle height is adjusted depending on distance between the vehicle and the target object. An independent claim is also included for a device for image-supported docking in a target object with a vehicle.
