The procedure for inductive hardening of metallic workpieces (1) such as chain links, rail and switch elements, comprises adding para- or ferromagnetic workpieces to the workpiece and moving an inductor (3) along the workpiece for hardening. The workpiece has different geometry, which is turned to the inductor. The total geometry defined from the workpiece and additional workpiece remains same along the movement of the inductor. The additional workpiece touches the workpiece or has an inter space, and is cooled.
