Method for influencing, in particular for reducing, the propagation velocity of light signals 10, 11 which propagate at a group velocity within a waveguide 14, in particular within a glass fiber, in the direction of propagation, wherein pumping radiation of a limited frequency range in the waveguide 14 opposes the propagation direction of the light signals 10, 11 is coupled, wherein between the pump radiation and the light signals 10, 11 takes place a stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS), wherein in addition to the first pump radiation, a second pump radiation is coupled into the waveguide 14 whose frequency is shifted relative to the first pump radiation in such a way and wherein the gain spectrum 5 of one pump radiation at least partially overlaps the loss spectrum 3 of the other pump radiation.
