The rotation damper has a working chamber (20), which is filled with a damping medium. The rotation damper has a rotating element, which is arranged in the working chamber and rotating relative to the working chamber against the resistance of the damping medium. The ratio of the quantity of the damping medium to the working chamber volume is changed in a part of the working chamber during the damping of the rotary motion. The rotation damper has an adjusting element (36), which is in the working chamber. The rotating element is a pin (34). An independent claim is also included for a belt retractor shaft for a vehicle safety belt system.
